COLORADO SPRINGS 鈥?Firefighters with the Colorado Springs Fire Department s Heavy Rescue Team pulled two children to safety this afternoon after they became trapped on a rock in the middle of Sand Creek. The firefighters are specially trained in swift water rescues, among other disciplines. They were able to wade out into the water and bring the kids to safety. Lt. Aaron McConnellogue said the sunny weather during the rescue was deceiving considering how much water was flowing through the creek because of the afternoon storms. They were on a rock in a fairly air max plus safe location, but we re still getting lots of water that s coming from the north end of town, McConnellogue said.
